Vertical Landscaping/Park & Biotower PDF Print E-mail

Cornell Gates will incorporate Vertical Landscaping into all of its buildings, as inspired by the work of Dr. Ken Yeang, an internationally renowed architect with T.R. Hamzah & Yeang .

After discussions with the core team, consultants, and officials, we have decided that the best solution is to create a unique vertical park, that in fact will be more than triple the required size for allocated green space. This shows to both the community and the town a commitment at our end to comply with the guidelines of the Secondary Plan.

Our condo communities will enjoy a manicured garden on one floor and will be able to buy vegetables that have been organically grown in the building on another one.

The "green" will not only stay on the inside of the building, but will overflow through the skin of the building to the outside to embrace it, giving the impression of a living organism. This will improve the air quality of the building and the surrounding area.

Another source of inspiration for the sustainability of the project is the Biotower designed by architect Walter Hunziker.

As are both aware of the planning guidelines set by the Town of Markham regarding the green space allocation required for any project, and under pressure due to increasing costs of additional land, we had to think of new, innovative ways to address both issues.
